Anime, an Italian word that means “souls," is a varietal wine brand. The old photographs on the Anime labels show people in social settings. They are meant to crystallize essential moments in the past, much the way a good wine can enhance and lengthen moments in the present. Anime wines are made for Matt Brothers in Italy's northeastern Friuli region by Scolaris Vini, a family winery operated by Marco Scolaris.

Anime Pinot Grigio comes from the Collio appellation. It is a sturdy, relatively long-lived wine with good depth and aromatic complexity. Anime Merlot is cultivated in the Isonzo appellation. The Isonzo river has created a floodplain here whose soil is ideal for Merlot, a vine which tends to mature poorly in rich soils. Here, it produces excellent fruit, much better than can be grown farther north in the Collio or farther west in Latisana.
