Cune is the brand name of the Compania Vinicola del Norte de Espana, one of Rioja’s most important wineries. An acknowledged leader in the production of top-quality, traditionally styled Rioja wines, Cune has over 100 years of history in the region. It owns over 1300 acres of vineyards in the three sub-districts of Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Baja.
Cune makes a broad range of wines in different styles. They can be divided into three general
groups; The Cune basic line, the Vina Real line, and the Imperial line. The
first group includes Cune Crianza and Cune Reserva.
Cune's Gran Reservas are very special wines. Made only in the best vintage
years from the best grapes. The Vina Real Gran Reserva, while treated like
the Imperial, follows the pattern of Rioja Alavesa maturing earlier and showing
more flowery aromatics than the Imperial. It is useful to compare Imperial
Gran Reserva to a grand cru Bordeaux and Vina Real Gran Reserva to a grand
cru Burgundy.
